Our History
The decision towards the formation of our church and the first liturgy took place in April 1973. The church building was purchased in 1993, and the adjacent house, number 2 Rutland road, which serves as the residence of the serving priest, was later purchased in 1996. Years later, in May of 2001, the inauguration of our Church took place, the ceremony presided by His Eminence Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain. The relics of three Saints, Lazarus, Andrew, and Panteleimon, were placed in the Holy Altar. The church committee has been led over the years by Tasos Alexandrou, Andreas Christodoulou and Giasemis Petrou, until 2006 when Mr Giasemis Petrou was appointed as an Honorary Chairman for life and Mr Alexandros Pelopidas appointed as Chairman of the Church Committee.
Here I need to speak about the women's committee, but I need information about what they do, when it was founded etc.
Renovations to the furniture of the church took place in 2006, which included the iconostasis, prothesis, cabinets, prayer stands, 140 chairs and 46 pews, as well as additional fencing being installed in November 2007.
Here I would like to mention the Romanian community and how they shared the same building with the Greek community under Fr Sorin
At present, the church serves the Greek Orthodox community, but father Emilian Bratu is able to speak Romanian, Greek and English, and the services are carried out in a combination of the three languages.
